Introduction to the Night Sky and Astronomy

This two-session course prepares students for many things: how to further appreciate and understand what is in the night sky, navigation to objects in the night sky, and visual astronomy with telescopes. Both sessions include an opportunity for hands-on practice. Once students complete the course, they will be ready to take trips out to a dedicated dark sky location like Goldendale Sky Village.

Session 1: Telescopes

General understanding of function and uses of telescopes: 

-Basic elements of tritop, mount, telescope and how they work together.

-Importance of focal length, aperture,  and eye pieces.

Session 2: Night Sky
